Change
Coming soon in kit form.
Friends and family tease me about
my fear of the "D" word, ("D"
as in different.)
Truth is, I don’t know many
people who really embrace change. We all want
some stability, some predictability in our lives.
Yet everything – people, places and circumstances
– changes, whether we want it to or not.
Here in Canada we have vastly different
seasons – cool, crisp autumns that move
into white, terrifically cold winters that then
give way to wet, green springs and hot, humid
glorious summers. Our seasons give us a great
lesson in moving on to the next thing. And still,
we resist!
I’ve begun to see that this
resistance has more to do with the speed of change,
rather than the change itself. Realizing now that
it takes me awhile to process fast-moving life,
I allow myself a bit of quiet time both at the
beginning and the end of my day. My quiet times
steady me. I assess the changes around me and
prepare for what’s next.
Now when I see the word "change"
I see how close it is to the word "challenge."
And I am reminded of the incremental changes that
happen every single day – in my garden,
in my children, in myself. It is inevitable.
