Balance
Coming soon in kit form.
A balance between home, work, love
and creativity – this is what most of us
strive for. But it doesn’t come easy, does
it? The rewards for work – the praise and
pleasing – push me to work more than I play.
And then the pleasures of home and family make
me resist work. Success in one area seems to come
at a price in another. There’s lots of push
and pull in my life.
But I do know that without balance,
I will eventually be like burnt toast, crispy
around the edges. I’m aware of the things
that hold me back: finances, duty, the habit of
doing too much. But I also have a strong sense
that balance will be the key to moving through
my middle years.
Balance will enable me to honour
my responsibilities and still honour what makes
me unique. It will allow me to follow my curiosities
and create without judgment. Striving for this
sometimes-illusive goal will be a check against
regret.
Recently I went to an 80-year-old
woman’s birthday party. From the friends,
family, youngsters and not-so-youngsters gathered
(some of whom had come quite a distance), I could
see that this birthday girl had achieved a balanced
life. It has inspired me to do the same.
