This Celtic knot with intertwining
hearts can be stitched alone or be personalized
with names and date. Fonts for personalizing the
design are included.
This chart opens up to an oversized
17½” x 23½” full color
pattern with easy-to-read symbols. Only three
colors are required to create realistic shading.
Alternate color choices are offered for working
on white or off white.
Stitched on aida or evenweave; DMC
and Anchor codes.

My husband Bob is the
only person I know who makes intricate, geometric
patterns for fun. So it's no wonder he fell in
love with Celtic design after reading a book about
it a few years back. He's of
English descent (my roots are Irish), and this
pattern reflects our connection to this heritage.
The shape of the heart actually
comes from a small, decorative accent Bob found
on an illumination from the Book of Kells. My
suggestion was that we repeat it, upside down,
to create a circle.
When I finally sat down to stitch
Bob's design, I found myself thinking about love,
about its circular quality: we love our children
who go on to love their children who go on to
love their children. Even when the love starts
with an adopted parent, even when a loved one
is gone, the circle keeps turning.
A few years ago I was having a hard
time getting over the death of my godmother, Cecile.
Then slowly I began to realize that as women we're
here to help people into this world and, later,
to help them out of this world. I came to see
that Cecile is as alive to me as ever, that our
love won't ever end.
Other uses for this pattern
My sister announced her engagement while this design was in its
infancy, giving me a wonderful opportunity to turn it into a special
gift. I added her name and my brother-in-law's, plus their wedding
place and date. The alphabet I used is included with the pattern.
